Very.co.uk Hits The Big League

Very.co.uk has hit sales of £700 million million putting it among the largest websites in the UK.

The site, owned by catalogue and online giant Shop Direct, increased sales by 27 per cent in the six weeks to December 27.

The website compares well with sites such as Asos, which hit £754 million in the year to August, and Marks & Spencer who has online sales estimated to be about £800 million.

Next has exceeded £1 billion and John Lewis is expected to follow suit in the year to the end of January.

Shop Direct CEO Alex Baldock told the Financial Times: 'There are not too many £700 million turnover businesses that are growing at 20 per cent a year.'

Shop Direct, which is owned by the Barclay Brothers, makes sales of around £1.6 billion a year and includes brands such as Littlewoods and K&Co.
