Twitter To Launch Shop

Twitter is planning to launch an ecommerce service which will allow users to buy goods directly from its site.

According to technology news site Recode.net, the social media giant is expected to launch the Twitter Commerce service initially with design led products retailer Fancy.com. Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is an investor and board member at Fancy.com.

The microblogging site is close to finalising a deal with payment services company Stripe to deal with demand, according to Recode, which says it discovered documents detailing the new plan on the open Web through a public section of Fancy.com's website which was not password protected.

Twitter has 232 million users and even a small dent in the ecommerce market could have a potentially massive impact. Users would see pictures of products appear on Twitter and purchase by clicking a button marked 'buy with Fancy'.

The plan follows limited experiments with payments by Twitter, which may provide more details at its first set of results as a public company on Wednesday. The company is under pressure to explain to investors how it can monetise its users and traffic without putting them off using the service.
