Facebook referrals convert to spending shoppers at twice the rate of those referred by Pinterest, according to a survey by IBM.
The survey also found that the amount of money spent by Facebook shoppers was slightly higher than Pinterest at £56.24 compared with £57.70, according to the data from IBM's Digital Analytics Benchmark which uses research from 200 UK web sites.
IBM said spending on mobile devices in the survey period - the seven days to February 13 - increased 54 per cent and it also confirmed that the smartphone is fast emerging as the browser of choice.
Smartphones drove 27 per cent of all online traffic and tablets drove 23 per cent. However, tablets were well ahead versus smartphones when it came to spending. Tablets accounted for 22 per cent of all sales compared with 16 per cent on smartphones.
Customers also spent more each visit on their tablets averaging £80.36 per order versus £68.20 on smartphones.
Mobile devices accounted for 50 per cent of all traffic and 39 per cent of online sales, according to the IBM, still lagging desktops but rising fast.
Operating systems also showed a some differences with iOS almost three times higher than Android and driving 29 per cent of sales compared with 10 per cent.
However, spending per visit was similar at £75.35 per order on iOS compared with £72.64 on Android. Android also harboured a smaller potion of traffic at 34.5 per cent compared with Android at 14.5 per cent.
