Tesco Starts Its First Ever Tube Station Click & Collect Service

Tesco has launched its first ever London Underground Click & Collect service which allows customers to order and collect from a van parked at the station.

The service at Rayners Lane tube station is one of six planned by Tesco this year. Transport for London has agreed another six with Waitrose.

The refrigerated van will make shopping available for collection between 12 noon and 3 pm and then from 5 pm to 8 pm. Other collection points will launch at Osterley, Redbridge, Arnos Grove, Cockfosters and Finchley Central over the next few weeks.

All will operate seven days a week with some offering collections in the morning.

Tesco's managing director for London Andrew Yaxley said: 'Our customers love the flexibility of 'click and collect' because they can get their groceries at a time and location that's most convenient to them.'

He said: 'Picking up groceries just outside a tube station is particularly helpful for busy commuters because they can collect their shopping on the way from work and continue home. It is just another way we are trying to make shopping easier for Londoners.'

The scheme follows a trial with Asda last year which included Stanmore station and Harrow and Wealdstone. Transport for London is seeking ways to maximise profits from its tube stations. It says there are 60 tube station car parks that could be used.

It has clashed with unions over plans to close ticket offices and replace them with commercial enterprises such a flower vending machines and click and collect lockers.
