The Hut Group, which is backed by some of the most famous names in the retail sector, is being offered money by at least two separate organisations to persuade it to build its new giant warehouse.
The online retail group could be offered a £42 million loan by Warrington Borough Council to locate at its Omega development, the Warrington Gardian newspaper has reported.
The newspaper said it has seen documents from a recent council meeting held in private that show the council is competing to attract the Hut Group with a new development at Manchester Airport which is also offering the e-commerce group incentives including a loan.
The warehouse could support 2,000 jobs and set the Hut on course for its next stage of expansion.
The Hut group, which is run by founder Matt Moulding, increased revenues by 30.3% to £77.1 million in the six months to June 30.
The Hut's sites include music site Zavvi.com, gadget seller iWantOneOfThose.com, luxury and clothing sites MyBag.com, AllSole.com and Coggles.com; cosmetics sites BeautyExpert.com, LookFantastic.com and Mankind.com and supplements sites MyVitamins.com and MyProtein.com.
Omega is a £1 billion 575 acre business park and logistics hub located near Junction 8 of the M62.
Council leader Terry O’Neill told the newspaper that The Hut Group had expressed interest in going on Omega and we had to put something forward in principle' but no one has committed to any decision yet.
Former Morrisons finance director Richard Pennycook is chairman and former Matalan chief executive Angus Monro is former chairman and now a non-executive. Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy, former Marks & Spencer chairman Sir Stuart Rose and former Debenhams chief executive Terry Green are all shareholders.
