John Lewis Searches For Tech Start-Ups

Department store John Lewis has launched a search for innovative technology start-ups and has established a separate division to support the programme.

The department stores tech incubator JLab will partner with technology entrepreneur Stuart Marks in the search which launches today.

Entrants have until April 17 to enter and can find more information at JLab.co.uk. The winning entrant will receive £50,000 to help develop their business.

Paul Coby, IT director at John Lewis, said: 'As a big business we have a certain way of doing things and this is a chance to inject some of the spirit of a 'start-up'. As this is an in-house project the companies will have regular input and help from the mentor team to ensure all ideas are aligned with our brand values, whilst fulfilling the strategic innovation brief.'

The company said the main areas it will focus on will include 'simplifying customers' lives and innovation around the 'internet of things' - how all devices will communicate together enabling a more connected home.'

It will also seek new ideas for technology-driven customer inspiration, in-store innovation and 'omni-customer experience'.
