Amazon UK executive Doug Gurr has signalled that Amazon Fresh is gearing up for global expansion following a roll-out in North America.
Food and gorcery delivery service Amazon Fresh was launched as a trial in Seattle in 2007 and extended to San Francisco and Los Angeles last year. It has been reported that the new territories are a precursor to a launch across 20 urban sites in the US.
Gurr, executive vice-president at Amazon UK, said at the City Food Lecture in London: 'We don’t publish forward strategy plans but history would suggest that once we roll out something across North America, typically that leads to international expansion.'
He added: 'Our model is to take something, see if it works, and then roll it out on a wider scale.'
