Majestic Wine Plans To Build Its Own Web Development Team

Majestic Wine plans to build its own web development team as part of long-term growth plans.

The chain said it will establish the in-house e-commerce development team as it increases its focus on the website which last year generated 11 per cent of sales to the business.

The web development plan is part of a wider infrastructure strategy that will include new office space and a larger, more efficient distribution facility to handle higher volumes.

Last year Majestic Wine relaunched its web platform on both its PC and mobile optimised sites with an enhanced stock system which allowed customers to order from a broader range of products based on what is available locally. It also introduced an improved click and collect offer.

The chain stunned investors last week with a profit warning that caused a 20 per cent slump in shares. It blamed weak trading in January and February following a reasonably strong Christmas when sales grew 2.8 per cent.

Steve Lewis, Chief Executive, said: 'The Majestic proposition remains compelling to the consumer and our future growth prospects remain bright. I am confident that the investments we are making over the course of the next twelve months will drive future shareholder value.'
