HereForAPound.com Smashes Target In First Month

HereForAPound.com, Britain's first ever online pound shop, has more than quadrupled its original sales target after a surge of interest from curious shoppers.

The company had been aiming for sales of £28,000 in the first month but by the end of last week had already reach £100,000 after four weeks of trading.

The company's managing director Donna Baker has already begun redrafting sales targets and now expects to raise forecasts for the first year from up to £4 million to well in excess of £5 million, she told The Mail On Sunday.

Baker, who founded the company with husband Mark, plans to open a bigger warehouse this year to support the growth. They also runs HereForADay.com which has a turnover of around £1 million.

The company featured in BBC1 reality programme Pound Shop Wars late last month and suffered a DoS (Denial of Service) failure because of the surge in traffic volumes. It reopened about an hour later.

Rival Poundshop.com also collapsed on the same evening and did not reopen until the following day.

PoundPanda, the third pound shop to open last month, is rumoured to have been closed by its owning family over fears it may compete with customers its main business supplies including Poundworld which operates Poundshop.com.
