Asos has appointed two new non-executive board members - both are female and both experienced retail executives.
The appointments could once again ignite speculation that the Aim-listed Asos could be grooming the business for entry into the FTSE 100. There are also following the current trend for better governance practice by balancing the gender of boards with more women.
Sources have said that admission to the blue chip index would elevate the view of Asos in the eyes of global investors and could be game changing in the finance made available to the company. The company has dismissed the goal is part of its short-term plans.
Hilary Riva is a former Arcadia Group executive. She made her fortune acquiring the chains which were hived off when Sir Philip Green bought Arcadia in 2002. Her and the other directors sold them in 2006 for a reputed £130 million.
She also previously ran London Fashion Week through her role as chief executive of the British Fashion Council.
Rita Clifton is a former chair at marketing group Interbrand, which counted dozens of retailers among its clients, and was also previously a non-executive director at electricals retailer Dixons. She is currently chair at strategic brand consultancy BrandCap.
