A further 25 companies have been confirmed by Tech City UK as part of a Government-backed Future Fifty programme.
The firms, chosen for their rapid growth potential, are the second tranche following the initial announcement in October. The latest group includes a heavier representation of ecommerce firms - 11 out of the 25 - such as AO.com, Achica.com and ChemistDirect.co.uk.
The programme's stated aim is to provide the firms with specialist advice and to guide them to a stock market listing. It aims to catalyse growth at the businesses over the next year, create jobs and deliver wider economic growth.
Members of the advisory panel include Asos chief financial officer Nick Beighton, Balderton Capital's Tim Bunting and serial tech investor Robin Klein, a founder partner at The Accelerator Group which specifically targets ecommerce businesses.
Tech City UK is part-funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. It was initially announced by chancellor George Osborne and Tech City UK chief executive Joanna Shields - formerly Facebook's European boss in April.
Companies considered for the programme needed to be UK-based with an annual revenue of at least £10 million and have increased sales at a rate of 30 per cent a year for the past two years.
Shields said: 'UK government policies and programmes have already resulted in a record number of new technology companies being started. The companies on the Future Fifty programme prove that we have moved beyond a few digital start-ups to nurturing world-class high growth businesses across many sectors – all of which have one thing in common: they are digital at their core and they are powering ahead to generate long term sustainable growth and jobs in the UK.'
Holly Tucker, co-founder and chief executive of NotOnTheHighStreet.com, said: 'We’re delighted we have been selected as one of the Future Fifty by Tech City UK. The business has seen phenomenal growth since its launch in 2006, doubling turnover year after year, and we look forward to maximising the future growth opportunities presented by being part of the Future Fifty programme.'
