Department store House of Fraser increased online sales by 31.1 per cent in the past three months, helping tip sales into the black.
Like-for-like sales increased 0.8 per cent in the third quarter as the firm concentrated its efforts on developing multichannel strategies. In October it dedicated the fifth floor of its Edinburgh store to product that customers are unable to take away but can order at consoles for home delivery or collection.
It is also looking for around 10 sites for click-and-collect-only stores where the entire shop would operate on the same basis. It already has one such store in Aberdeen.
One analyst said that comparative sales in the same period last year, when like for like sales increased 5.4 per cent, had been 'tough' to beat.
He said stiff competition and unseasonably warm weather had not helped. But he added that the firm would need to produce good figures if it was to fulfil its ambition to list its shares on the London Stock Exchange next year.
