Supermarket Morrisons has appointed an online grocery boss and reorganised its management team ahead of the launch of the new business at Christmas.
Group logistics and supply chain director Neal Austin will take responsibility for the online operation, according to the Independent newspaper. Simon Thompson, with Morrisons since 2011 and managing director of online food, will report to him.
Other key executives include Nicky Hector, online development director, who joined last year from her previous position as head of strategy at Waitrose.
Group retail director Mark Harrison has moved to become group manufacturing director and chief executive of the Woodheads Farmers Boy brand, William Morrisons Produce, Rathbones, Simply Fresh and the Flowerworld unit. He will swap jobs with group manufacturing director Martyn Fletcher, who becomes group retail director, the Grocer said.
An internal memo from Dalton Philips to staff, leaked to Retail Week said: 'We need to have a strong, integrated team that is well equipped to handle the challenges of multichannel format retailing.'
He added: 'I'm so proud of the strength we have in the teams across all of our business. These changes are another important step to building the business of tomorrow as well as trading hard for today.'
The supermarket agreed a 25-year partnership deal with delivery firm Ocado in May and plans to launch the operation around the end of the year.
