New Look Website Sales Jump 48%

New Look said online sales surged over the Christmas period with click-and-collect orders now accounting for a quarter of all its sales.

The retailer said sales from its website, NewLook.com, rose 48 per cent in the seven weeks to December 28 and total ecommerce sales, including sales through other sites such as Asos.com, increased 62 per cent.

Total UK sales increased 2.9 per cent and rose 1.5 per cent on a like-for-like basis.

New Look CEO Anders Kristiansen said: 'New Look has performed well over this period. After a difficult start to the quarter, on account of an unseasonably warm October, trading returned to more normal levels. However, the festive trading window was smaller this year, with customers delaying purchases in order to seek out the best promotions before Christmas.'

He said: 'In spite of the backdrop of extensive Christmas discounting across the high street, our stronger full-price sales performance ensured that we were able to protect our margin and we also saw our market share grow.'

He said he was 'optimistic about the year ahead' but that he was 'watchful of the pace of recovery in the UK economy and the continued pressures facing our customers.'
