John Lewis Christmas Ad Helps Boost Online Sales 23%

Department store John Lewis said today that online sales rose 23 per cent in the past week after its Christmas advert attracted millions of online views.

The full two-minute version of the advert debuted during last night's X-Factor but 2.75 million people have also viewed the advert on John Lewis' You Tube channel. The growth was ahead of the 19 per cent increase in the 14 weeks of its financial second-half to date.

The shop's 'The Hare & The Bear' advert took just 24 hours to reach 1 million views from when it first appeared on You Tube on Friday.

Total sales at the department store during the week increased 7.1 per cent to 91 million, which analysts said translated into a 6 per cent like-for-like increase.
